Downton Abbey – The Grand Finale (2025): The classiest goodbyes

The third feature-length movie released since the official conclusion of the Downton Abbey TV series is also the last one. Set in 1930, it explores a time of social transition as the Crawleys navigate a new decade. The costumes, set design, and location choices are all carefully chosen to evoke this specific moment in history.

One of the film’s most notable achievements is the work of costume designer Anna Mary Scott Robbins, who expanded the wardrobe to include early-’30s fashion: bias-cut gowns, silk and chiffon fabrics, Art Deco accessories, cloche hats, and structured silhouettes that reflect the era’s evolving aesthetics. As usual, the interiors of Highclere Castle are dressed with great attention to texture and detail.

The cinematography remains consistent with the look of the Downton Abbey films and series, emphasising naturalistic lighting and nuanced period colour palettes rather than overtly stylised modern treatments. No expense was spared to make this grand finale look astonishing.
