Directed by Jack Bender, Child’s Play 3 continues the story of the killer doll Chucky, who is looking to transfer his consciousness into a new body once again. The story centres on Andy, who is now a teenage boy enrolled in a military academy. Chucky resumes his attempt to possess a human host while committing a new series of murders within the institution.
The final film in the original Child’s Play trilogy features a change of setting and main actor, but the Chucky doll remains as deadly and sadistic as ever. Set in a military academy far from an urban environment but close to deadly weapons, the film loses some of the grit that made the previous films stand out, but compensates with an impressive final act set in a neon-drenched, cavernous carnival attraction that brings Chucky back to his more grotesque excesses.
Probably the least popular film in the Chucky series, Child’s Play 3 still pushes the franchise’s dark humour further thanks to puppetry that makes Chucky more expressive than ever. This matches Brad Dourif‘s unhinged vocal performance. That doll is deadlier than ever.
