Weapons (2025): A Suburban Mystery

Following the breakout success of Barbarian, director Zach Cregger returned with Weapons. Set in a small American town, the story begins one night at 2:17 a.m. when seventeen children from the same classroom simultaneously leave their homes and disappear. Only one child remains behind, leaving the community struggling to understand what happened.
The film is structured as a multi-perspective mystery, with several narrative threads gradually coming together. Set in a quiet suburban environment, the story places the horror in familiar everyday spaces, emphasising the eerie nature of the disappearance when normal routines are suddenly interrupted.
To establish a tone of investigative realism, the camera frequently observes the characters from a moderate distance, rather than relying on close-ups. This restrained visual approach, combined with a story built around gradual revelation rather than immediate explanation, increases the atmospheric tension and encourages us to solve the mystery alongside the characters.
