Directed by David Chung, Web of Deception is a tense, claustrophobic thriller about a secretary who decides to blackmail her wealthy boss. When her roommate, who needs money to bail her twin sister out, discovers this, she decides to get involved. In order to acquire the money quickly, she plans to infiltrate the home of the victim, but the situation does not turn out as she expects, and her sister steps in to get revenge.

This very pulpy, neo-noir, Hitchcockian thriller with a touch of Hong Kong melodrama is all about building tension and playing with shadows, with most of the action confined to one location: a luxurious yet cold residence. Within this limited setting, a handful of characters become trapped in a game of cat and mouse. There’s one target, and everyone wants a piece of her, but ambitions and methods quickly create problems.

Web of Deception has the look of a sophisticated thriller and the five-star cast to pull it off. David Chung focuses on the atmosphere, playing with colours and elaborate staging to build suspense and lead to an unpredictable conclusion.
